Study on the needs of people from diverse cultural backgrounds in the Eixample District.

Barcelona City Council

Challenge

In the framework of the deployment of the Intercultural Action Plan of the Eixample District (PAID), the District decided to promote an exploratory study on the needs of people from diverse cultural contexts in the territory, as a basis for having information to design concrete actions to be incorporated into the annual work plans for intercultural mainstreaming. In particular, we wanted to identify needs in relation to issues such as communication with the District, participation in the District’s spaces and channels of participation, processing of documentation, resources, business licenses, permits for the use of public space, among others.

The overall objective of the study is to provide an information base to develop specific actions that can be incorporated into the annual work plans for the mainstreaming of interculturality of all the Directorates of the Eixample District.

Response

Spora has conducted interviews with technicians and technicians of the District, as well as the Office of Religious Affairs (OAR) of the Barcelona City Council, in order to:

  1. Gather their perceptions in relation to the needs of people from cultural contexts of the municipality;
  2. Identify people and entities of the territory that can participate in the focus groups.

Subsequently, 3 focus groups were held with representatives of entities and associations of the territory, in order to collect:

  1. Their needs in relation to the topics considered in the study;
  2. Proposals for concrete actions to respond to these needs.

Finally, the content of the interviews and work sessions was organized, the information gathered was analyzed and a summary document was prepared which includes the needs and proposals for action generated by the agents interviewed.
