Gender-based violence, mental health problems and/or problematic substance abuse during the COVID-19 pandemic

Programme on Substance Abuse (Government of Catalonia)

As a result of the Covid-19 many women who suffered gender-based violence have been confined, in the worst case with their abusers. In addition, many women who suffer gender-based violence may have some mental health problems or use psychoactive substances, often because of the situation of violence experienced.

The Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya wanted to know the situations experienced by women who suffer from gender-based violence and who have any mental health problems or problematic consumption during confinement and decontamination in the Covid-19 period.

Specifically, the aim was to detect the needs of these women during confinement and the dynamics of their relationship with the services that served them. We also wanted to know the situations that the aggressor men have experienced.

To carry out this analysis, the professionals of the services linked to the networks of gender-based violence (SIE / SARA), the mental health network (CSMA and CSMIJ) and the drug addiction care network (CAS, REDAN and UJP).
